 Dynamic
Karate By Nakayama catalogues all techniques of Shotokan
along with technical performance tips. All techniques are
demonstrated by Nakayama himself. It also contains many
pictures of JKA instructors such as Okazaki, Enoeda and
Kanazawa in their younger days before the JKA splintered.
This book by Nakayama contains instruction on the
basic block, strikes, kicks and punches. If you purchase
Dynamic Karate, then there is no need for this book.
The Karate Do Kyohan by the founder of Shotokan Karate
himself - Gichin Funakoshi. This version is a translation
by SKA chief instructor Tsutumo Ohshima. This book
contains basics and 15 Shotokan Kata with performances by
Ohshima. Ohshima's SKA group use this book as their
bible. There are some technical differences in the
performances from the typical JKA methods but that does
not detract from the overall value of the book. The book
includes interesting references to vital points and
throwing techniques in kata.
