Volunteers

The Historical Society is always looking for volunteers with a variety of talents and skills. Activities could include such things as cataloging, data entry, filing, assisting in research activities, and conducting tours of Tudor Hall and the Old Jail.

Volunteering can be a regular weekly commitment, or can involve specific, temporary projects creating an exhibit on a particular piece of local history. Individuals eith talent mounting exhibit text and images labels are particularly appreciated

Responsibilities

Docent Tours of the Museum
Curatorial Department Curatorial assistant
Photo Department Cataloger, Database Clerical
Exhibits catalogued artifact; inspect, clean, treat, and repair (if necessary); plan and prepare the displays and exhibits in the various parts of the Museum; keep the exhibit areas clean
Research Archives Research Assistant, Collections Inventory, Aquisitions
Aquisitions organize and catalogue donated items before storing them or placing them on exhibit; type Certificate of Gift and donor card , artifcact are identified, described, and assigned an accession number, add accession card to the catalogue file under its assigned category
Chronicles of St. Mary's
Scanning and Proof-reading, Typing, Writing
Buildings General Maintenance and Landscaping
Office Indexing, Filing, Word Processing, Data Entry
Work Parties The volunteers in these work parties help keep up the Tudor Hall and The Old Jail. A knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, wiring, gardening, etc., would be helpful to the entire party, but is not essential. A willingness to help out is the main thing needed
Food Committee Hospitality hostesses are called upon when food is needed for special events and work parties. These volunteers solicit or purchase food, keep track of food donors and coordinate set-up and clean-up activities. This is an excellent place for those who can only volunteer occasionally.

Sales Associates. The Museum Store offers books, souvenirs, and high quality bin and regional handicrafts. Money earned helps to keep the museum open to the public and to support ongoing projects.
